Rotary and Flat Bed Die Cutting

Die cutting is the process of using a die to cut sheets or rolls of low strength materials, such as rubber, fiber, paper stock, plastics, pressure-sensitive adhesives, foams or foil. Preco machines can cut out discrete parts or are sophisticated enough to cut down to a substrate, known as kiss cutting the part, so it remains on the liner. Die cutting can be done on either a flat bed or rotary press, both of which are manufactured by Preco.

  • Preco presses are modular in design allowing you to pick and choose accessories to modify the press to your particular design using a single source.
  • Preco presses offer a lot of versatility; because of inbound and outbound roll feeds strip, coil or sheet material can be processed.
  • The amount of tonnage that strikes your material is controlled; therefore, your tooling lasts longer saving you money and time because of fewer die changeovers.
  • The micrometer precisely controls the depth of cut into materials without using stop blocks.
  • Automatic feed systems allow for a +/-.005" or less progression accuracy increasing material yields.
  • Quick changing tooling allows for less than 10-second changeovers of steel rule dies (excluding make ready).
  • Automatic knockout and stacking capabilities reduce operation and production time thus reducing labor costs and increasing profits.
  • The stroke length on Preco presses can be adjusted from .150" to 4", permitting the speed of the press to be optimized while running materials as thin as .001" thick up to 2" thick.
  • Preco’s four-post-press design enables it to run most types of tooling. Steel rule, combination tooling, matched metal (male/female tooling), magnesium dies, etched dies, etc.
  • Microprocessor computer controls allow for quick setup as well as interfacing of Preco accessories and peripheral equipment.
  • “X”, “X-Y”, “X-Y-THETA” Optical Registration options available. Preco uses fiber optics and CCD (Charge Couple Device) vision systems. The fiber optics allows +/- .003" accuracy in the feed direction, 90 degrees to the feed direction and skew of the print. The CCD vision system allows +/- .001" accuracy on all three axes.
  • Total batch count and the total count enable a press to run unattended until a preset number of finished parts are completed in the batch or the total number of batches are complete.
  • A heated platen is available to use in applying heat up to 400 degrees Fahrenheit for use in cutting heat-sensitive material, sealing operations or forming applications.
